Leichhardt was pleased to sponsor the final leg of the Outback Air Race from Exmouth to Carnarvon with all funds raised going to the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia (RFDS).

The Outback Air Race is a time trial through the remote Australian Outback. It isn’t really a race – but it does get very competitive and it is also a lot of fun.

Every team fundraises for the RFDS in the 12 months leading up to the race. Essentially a navigationally challenging and self-funded holiday for the Pilots and teams, they get to fly to and meet people in parts of Australia that many do not get to see.

Since 1996 competitors and spectators have raised almost $4 million. Funds from each race go towards outfitting RFDS aircraft with essential medical equipment, vital for treating sick and injured patients.

Brett Renton, Superintendent HSECT at Lake MacLeod and our Project Director, John Blower, attended the Outback Air Race celebratory dinner where they presented the “leg trophy” to the winning team “Nanny and Billy” (Greg and Rosemary) for the final leg of the air race from Exmouth to Carnarvon, sponsored by Leichhardt.  A special mention to the Outback Air Race team for all their hard work in organising such a fantastic event.  Your incredible support for the RFDS as a vital community service has raised an incredible $1 million over this 15-day aviation extravaganza!
